Somewhat atypically, this 2016 Château Breillan combines 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc – a blend more often associated with Saint-Emilion than with the Haut-Médoc. The result is a generous yet beautifully structured wine, being mid ruby-garnet in colour, the nose being scented and attractive, with notes cassis and spice. There is lovely bright fruit on the palate, with freshness and fine tannins to finish.
