The word Meix means a house, Chavaux being a compression of chef and val, signifying“uphill from the valley”. This is where the vines lie, on gently sloping land which perfectly catches the rising sun. This wine was impossible to resist, and it is a relief again to have bottles from such a lovely Meursault vineyard, after the devastating losses of 2021, due to frost. This has matured in three 500-litre barrels, one of which was new, and was bottled in July 2023. From very old vines, it has given a pale wine with fragrant aromas and brightly rich, freshly rounded palate – already a joy (for drinking 2024-2028+).
